Marketplace payout reconciliation, order by order

Marketplaces pay out a net amount. Remittance matches each settlement back to the orders, commissions, returns and deductions behind it, so finance can see what was paid, what was expected and what is still open.

Why marketplace payouts are hard to reconcile

A marketplace payout is a single net figure that covers many orders at once. Inside it, sales are mixed with commission, shipping charges, returns, cancellations and other deductions. The settlement period rarely lines up with the dates on which the orders were placed, and every marketplace reports these lines in its own format.

For a seller on one channel, this is a monthly spreadsheet job. For a seller on Trendyol, Hepsiburada, Amazon and N11 at the same time, it becomes a standing workload. As our Munchkin Türkiye case study notes, the manual work grows with the pairs of channels that have to be kept consistent, not with the channel count: two channels have one relationship to keep straight, five have ten.

The result is that differences between what was expected and what arrived are found late, if at all, and the commission and deduction figures used in pricing decisions are estimates rather than what the marketplace actually charged.

What Remittance matches

  • Settlements and payouts received from each connected marketplace.
  • The orders each settlement covers, with their selling prices.
  • Commission charged on those orders.
  • Shipping charges deducted by the marketplace.
  • Returns and cancellations that reduced the payout.
  • Other deductions that appear on the settlement, so nothing is left as an unexplained difference.

Each line is tied back to an order in the same synchronized model that DataSync uses for sales, stock and profitability, so a payout is never reconciled in isolation from the business it came from.

From expected payout to received payout

Illustrative example — one settlement period on one marketplace. Made-up round numbers, in currency units.
Line Amount
Orders in the settlement (gross sales) 10,000
Commission −1,500
Shipping charges −500
Returns −800
Other deductions −200
Expected payout 7,000
Payout received 6,900
Difference to review −100

The difference here is small, but it is the part that matters. Remittance shows which orders and which deduction lines make up the gap, so the follow-up with the marketplace starts from specific orders instead of a total that does not add up.

Questions it answers

  • Does this payout match the orders, commissions, returns and deductions it is supposed to cover?
  • Which orders have been delivered but not yet paid out?
  • Which deductions were higher than expected, and on which marketplace?
  • How much is still open across all channels at the end of the month?
  • Are the commission rates we use in pricing the ones we are actually being charged?

What the output helps you decide

  • Finance follow-up: which differences to raise with which marketplace, with the orders attached.
  • Cash planning: what is still due from each channel, as an input to Financial Planning & Budgeting, one of the nine DataSync capabilities.
  • Better profit figures: actual commission and deductions feed Order Profitability, so contribution is calculated on what was charged rather than on an assumed rate.
  • Better pricing decisions: SmartPricing and the Promotion Calculator work from the same reconciled costs.

As our article on synchronized intelligence argues, visibility alone does not improve coordination. A reconciliation that finance completes but pricing never sees changes nothing. Here, the same reconciled figures are available to every team that depends on them.

Who uses it

Remittance is built for the finance and accounting team first: the people who have to explain, at month end, why the money that arrived from each marketplace is not the same as the sales that were reported. But the reconciled figures matter to others too.

The e-commerce team needs to know when a marketplace is charging more commission or deductions on a category than the pricing assumed. Management needs one view of what is still owed across channels rather than a separate status from each marketplace. Because Remittance runs on the same model as the rest of DataSync, each of these readers sees the same reconciled numbers, scoped to their role, instead of a spreadsheet passed between departments.

How it fits into DataSync

Remittance is one of the DataSync add-ons, and every add-on is included in every plan. Definitions, thresholds and recipients are configured with your team during SYNC configuration, so what counts as an open difference, and who hears about it, is yours to set. Each marketplace appears as a source with its own freshness indicator, so you can see how current the settlement data is before you act on it.

Frequently asked questions

What is marketplace payout reconciliation?

It is the process of matching each payout a marketplace sends you to the orders, commissions, shipping charges, returns and other deductions it covers, so you can confirm that what you received is what you were owed.

Which marketplaces does Remittance work with?

Remittance works with the marketplaces connected to DataSync, including Trendyol, Hepsiburada, Amazon and N11.

What happens when a payout does not match?

The difference is shown with the orders and deduction lines that make it up, so your finance team can follow up with the marketplace on specific items rather than an unexplained total.

Does Remittance replace our accounting system?

No. Remittance reconciles marketplace payouts against orders and deductions inside the DataSync model. It works alongside a connected ERP such as Logo Tiger, Netsis, Mikro or SAP Business One rather than replacing it.

Is Remittance included in my plan?

Yes. Remittance is an add-on, and every DataSync add-on is included in every plan.
